The heart of Box On Boxing

Discover the passion, purpose, and people behind our kaupapa. This is more than just a gym; it’s a movement building stronger individuals and a thriving Blenheim community.

From a feeling, to a movement

Box On Boxing didn’t begin as a 'programme,' but from a deep pull in my puku, a feeling that our young people needed something solid, something honest. Especially those slipping through the cracks or who didn’t see themselves fitting into mainstream sport. Boxing shaped me; it taught me discipline, self-control, respect, and how to channel life’s challenges positively. I saw rangatahi carrying heavy burdens – anger, grief, frustration, no confidence – with nowhere safe to put it. The big idea was simple: give them a place to turn that energy into growth, not destruction.

I wanted every kid to feel seen, backed for where they could go, not judged for where they came from. It was never about making boxers; it was about building people. The community side grew naturally as whānau, siblings, and schools joined. That’s when Box On became bigger than me – a movement, a safe space, a home. The driving feeling? If we can change the trajectory of even one young person’s life, it’s worth every early morning, every late night, every glove laced. That’s what started me, and that’s what keeps me going.

More than just boxing

At Box On Boxing, Lee Tepuia brings far more than technical skill and coaching experience – he brings heart, leadership, and a kaupapa grounded in building better people, not just better fighters. Raised in Marlborough and shaped by triumphs and tough lessons, Lee understands firsthand the power of a safe space, strong role models, and a sense of belonging for young people and adults alike.

Through Box On, his mission is simple: use the discipline of boxing to develop confidence, resilience, and positive pathways for anyone who walks through the doors. We focus on discipline, self-respect, and channelling energy constructively, fostering a holistic approach to personal development.

Champions in life, not just the ring

At Box On Boxing, we want people to walk in and instantly feel seen, safe, and supported. Whether you’re a young person finding your feet or an adult rebuilding confidence, the goal is the same: that you leave feeling stronger – mentally, emotionally, and physically. We hope every person experiences a sense of belonging, like they’ve found a whānau that backs them; more confidence from putting in the mahi; better emotional regulation through boxing as a healthy outlet; hope and direction from positive role models; and pride in their progress.

For the wider Blenheim community, our vision is even bigger: stronger, healthier rangatahi who feel connected and valued; reduced harm by offering an alternative to negative environments; more positive male role models; a connected community where people look after each other; and a safer, more hopeful Blenheim with pathways and purpose. At the heart of it, Box On Boxing isn’t about creating champions in the ring – it’s about creating champions in life. If our people grow, our whole community grows with them.

"Seeing rangatahi turn their lives around, building confidence, and choosing better pathways — those are our biggest achievements. It’s about creating champions in life, not just the ring."
